Museum

2014 – ongoing project

Museum

C.O.: 75 M.€ - 5800 m2  (+ 2000 m2 parking)

Ambitions and cultural program

The museum of Abu Dhabi will join an overall policy of distribution and sharing of art with the public. It will comply with the original concept : raise public awareness of artistic creativity, promote human values such as a humanistic mindset and the taste and appreciation of absolute beauty.

With this aim in mind, more than just a museum, the project will be a national stage for the plastic arts – classic, modern or contemporary. The programming and the architecture will also associate music, dancing and drama.

The idea is to create the conditions for an immersion in art thanks to the combination of a welcoming and forward-looking architecture. It will therefore be a residence for artists invited to create in situ and share their creations with the public.

Archetypal living space, the museum will gather generations around Art by offering a set of friendly spaces to spend a beautiful day out with the family, around shaded courtyards, gardens, coffees, restaurants and shops.

TRADITIONAL ECOLOGY

In greater accordance with the great cycle of life that brings together art, time, men and their environment, the project has decided to seek inspiration from the key elements of traditional urbanism – orientation of houses, protection against warm wind, narrow streets, wind catching, traditional building materials.

A LABORATORY FOR ECOLOGY

The project will add to the traditional means the latest technology for sustainable development in accordance with local geography to create a new architecture, unique to the Middle East.

A LABORATORY FOR CONTEMPORARY ART

The project will provide the tools, the settings and all the means necessary to contemporary artistic creation: video, painting, sculpture, music etc.

The Museum will act as an actual art laboratory in the Middle East. It will offer the public the opportunity to experience contemporary creation, take part in the performances and it will favour artistic callings.

ARCHITECTURAL CHOICES

AN OASIS

In this context, the Museum in the Middle East will be designed like a fresh oasis composed of buildings surrounding planted courtyards. This oasis will be open to visitors and to prestigious guests invited by a patron of arts, a generous art lover.

A hanging garden will overlook the whole oasis as lookout over the landscape. A green walkway will lead the visitors to this panoramic viewpoint, like a flower stem growing towards the light. From this point, they will walk down to discover the exhibitions.

TWO BIG SOLAR TRELLIS

Two big solar panels/trellis will cover the terraces of the Pinacothèque (3000 m2).

Subtlety perforated, they will create a glittering shadow during the day and a star-like lighting at night.

The power they will provide will allow an autonomous lighting and air conditioning of the exhibition rooms.

A TOWER FOR ART

Beacon of the Museum, bearing images or pictures, a tower dedicated to art will be a giant totem for artists, visible from a distance.

The “fower-tower” will be animated with moving, evolving works of art, in accordance with the environment and the exhibition programming.

ACCESS A CAR PARK GARDEN OF SCULPTURES

Our project suggests an immersion in art as soon as the visitor enters the car park.

A very original and unusual commodity, our car park will also be a garden of sculptures which can be enjoyed by foot or from the car.

A sculpture gallery at the centre of the car park will provide a panorama of sculptures throughout History.

From there, visitors will go down to the experimental garden dedicated to young artists and then, they will access the entrance in the tower of the Museum.
